General Rules
No god modding or power play. This means that you can not automatically kill, or even hit, another cat. You have to have the player's permission or the other player has to say, in their post, that they have been hit. On the other hand, your cat can not dodge all strikes either. You must get hurt. You will get sick. Eventually, your cat will even grow old and die. If the cat is lucky. A warrior's life is a dangerous one.
What the admin says, goes. No player, staff or otherwise, has the power to overrule the decision of the admin (Everscale). Even if something is not stated expressly in the rules, if Everscale decides it is not acceptable (a name she considers non-traditional, a history she deems impossible, behavior she thinks is inappropriate) then it is not acceptable. No exceptions. This does not mean you can not send the admin a private message explaining the situation more clearly (make sure it's a private message, not in the cbox) but it does mean she can still say no if you do.
NO hatred of any kind. Homophobia, sexism, racism, religious discrimination - none of it is allowed here. This is a place where everything is accepted, and every member should be supported. There is a three strike system on this website, but you only get one chance with this rule. So don't try it.
Three strikes, you're out. If you are reported by any member three separate times, either for the same offense or three different offenses, your account will be deleted and, depending on the severity of the offenses, your IP address banned. You will be informed each time you are reported, if you are reported, but these reports remain anonymous. There will be no risk in reporting another member to the staff.
This forum is mature. Though extreme gore or explicit mating or birthing scenes are prohibited, things may be discussed in character or in the cbox that could make younger members uncomfortable. Unless an admin steps in, these topics are considered acceptable. Please use your own discretion in whether or not this forum will be right for you.
Avatars must be 150 pixels wide. They can be any height as long as it is within the default post length. Do not make all your posts longer by having something 3,000 pixels wide and two words in your post, it just looks funny.
Do not use images with watermarks. They break up the appearance of the site and if your character gains a high position the image cannot be used for a high position marker.

All characters must have traditional names. It will be up to the staff to decide whether or not a name is traditional, but here are a few guidelines.
There is an age limit. You can not join as a kit unless you have adopted the kit, or have bought an item from the shop. The youngest your cat can be is an apprentice of 6 moons.
You can not make a queen to start. You have to buy an item to start your character as a pregnant or nursing queen, just like if you want to start as a kit.
There is no character limit. Nor is there a time limit for making a new character. Just try to keep it down to a number you can keep up with.
No Mary Sues or Gary Stus. Characters can not be perfect. They must be interesting, atypical. Those are the most fun to play, and to play with.
One account per character. Make sure your account's display name is the name of your character. There is a button in the bottom right corner of your screen in v5 that will allow you to easily switch accounts.
All pictures must be stock. You can use the Creative Commons in Flickr, or the Stock tag in Deviant Art. Just make sure All Rights are not Reserved on your photo.
Cats are just cats. There are not wacky pelt colors, no unnatural markings, no wild eye colors. Your cats can not have special powers. You must buy an albino cat.
You may have one HalfClan character. This means characters who are half loner, or half kittypet, or have parents in two separate Clans. Any more than one of these characters must be purchased. The same with permissions for forbidden romances.
- The cats must reasonably know of the items, animals, or features in question. Since these cats are living in the Northeastern United States, a Raccoontail would be acceptable. A Badgerclaw would not, as we do not have badgers here.
- Never use star, moon, or sun in a name, unless a cat is becoming a leader, in which case the suffix -star can be used.
- Cats generally do not name their kits terrible things. No Lostkits, no Brokenkits, these names are earned in later moons, when great events shape a cat's life and personality and their names are changed officially by their leaders.

Posting
Minimum word limit for posts is 200 words. Occasional lapses are forgiven, but you will be contacted if your posts are consistently under the limit. Please try to match other members' contributions.
No explicit mating or birthing. Keep the site PG-13.
Cats don't speak like humans. They do not curse like humans. "Fuck" and "shit" are not even in the feline vocabulary. Use "mouse dung!" instead.
No posting until your application has been accepted. If you post before your application has been accepted, your character will not be accepted, your posts will be deleted.
Posts can be made in first or third person. Third person is preferred, but sometimes that is not how the muse works. However, all posts must be made in the past tense.

High Positions
Two high position accounts per member. This may be decreased at any time, once more members join the site and high positions come into demand. Those who already have two accounts will not, however, lose their high position if this rule is changed. They will simply be unable to replace the cat with another high position when the cat dies or steps down.
All high positions must attend Gatherings and other special events. Unless a cat is severely injured or ill, or you have posted recently in the Absences board, your high position cat must attend all Gatherings, Clan Meetings, Medicine Cat Gatherings, or other important events that have been announced.
High positions must post at least once a week. This is not too difficult, so please, keep up the activity.
Medicine cats decide when they want an apprentice. An announcement thread will be made for auditions when a medicine at informs the admin that they are ready to take on an apprentice.
You must audition for all high positions. Auditions include a standard application, plus the 250 word roleplay sample.
Romance for medicine cats must be purchased. This is the case with all forbidden romances. Remember that a medicine cat runs serious risk of losing their position if they are caught in a romance. A female medicine cat who becomes pregnant will automatically lose their position.
Pictures for the Stats section must be 75 pixels in height, 50 in width. The admin will do this editing when the picture is placed, but if you want it framed a specific way, feel free to edit it and send it in a PM to one of the staff. Make sure you explain why you're sending it or you might just get confusion back.
Medicine cats choose their own apprentices. If you have an apprentice you would like to mentor as a medicine cat, first talk to the player of the apprentice, then talk to the admins. Admins have final say.
Leaders will be involved in deputy selection. While admins will still have the final say in who is selected from the auditions, your input will be taken into advisement. This is to ensure that leaders and deputies work well together.

Kitting
Cats are considered mates after they have had three threads together. Romance must be mentioned in at least one of them. A thread is considered acceptably complete once each character has posted four times in it. Only once these requirements are met may kits be requested.
Cats must be warriors, or of warrior age (minimum 12 moons) to mate or have kits. No exceptions.
Queens remain pregnant for two IC moons. This means that kits will be born after four weeks in real life. Then another four weeks for the kit to be playable.
Each cat is limited to two litters per IC year. This is not negotiable, even though I know toms could impregnate more she-cats than that.
Up to five kits can be born in each litter.
Litters will be created by the staff. This means pictures, health, gender, and number of kits. Customization items can be bought in the shop.
Kits must be adopted by the date of birth. Otherwise they will be stillborn.
Bios for kits must be made by the date of birth. If the adoptee fails to create a bio for their kit by the date of birth, that kit will be given away by the staff to another user.
Time
Each moon on High Tide is two weeks in real life. That means it takes four weeks for a kit to age to the point where you can play it. It takes twelve weeks for a kit to grow into an apprentice, and another twelve weeks after that to become a warrior, at least.
Queens are pregnant for two IC moons. That means pregnancies last for two weeks.
